Dr. Christina Brophy Appointed as President and CEO of the Maritime Museum of San Diego
SAN DIEGO – The Maritime Museum of San Diego, an adventurous non-profit dedicated to collecting, preserving and presenting rich maritime heritage, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christina Brophy as its new president and CEO, effective immediately.
“I am incredibly grateful and proud to join the wonderful team at the Maritime Museum of San Diego,” said Dr. Brophy. “I am looking forward to an exciting future on the west coast and continuing to partner with my colleagues on all things maritime back east and abroad. San Diego is inextricably linked to the sea, and the Maritime Museum is the gateway to public engagement and personal connection.”
Dr. Brophy brings more than a decade of leadership experience in the museum industry, where she has championed cultural enrichment and fostered meaningful connections within the community. Her dedication to cultivating impactful experiences and her visionary approach make her uniquely positioned to steer the Maritime Museum of San Diego into its next chapter of growth and success.
“Dr. Brophy’s leadership and collaborative approach will enhance the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s partnerships with educational institutes, community organizations and businesses all while keeping the organization at the forefront of adventure and preservation,” said Kenneth Stipanov, Board Chair of the Maritime Museum of San Diego.
Dr. Brophy’s previous leadership roles include serving as senior vice president of the Mystic Seaport Museum and the Douglas and Cynthia Crocker Endowed Chair for the Chief Curator at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Throughout her career, Dr. Brophy has consistently demonstrated her dedication to creating opportunities and improving the lives of individuals and families in the communities she serves. She is a champion of a sustainable ocean and the preservation of our global maritime heritage.
