Weekend Screenings Of Ocean With David Attenborough Documentary
SAN DIEGO, CA – The Maritime Museum of San Diego, a nonprofit institution dedicated to preserving and celebrating the region’s rich seafaring heritage, is celebrating World Oceans Day Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8 with complimentary showings of the newly released documentary OCEAN WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH. The documentary takes viewers on a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean. In honour of World Oceans Day, ICMM (International Congress of Maritime Museums) member organizations from around the world have united to jointly screen Ocean with David Attenborough. Global community screenings through ICMM member organizations are generously supported by the Minderoo Foundation.
According to Maritime Museum of San Diego President and CEO Christina Connett Brophy, Ph.D., “The International Congress of Maritime Museum (ICMM) invited maritime museums across the world to unite in hosting screenings of the renowned British naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough’s new documentary. We find OCEAN WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH a meaningful, educational and timely production to inspire and encourage preservation of our ocean.” The intent of World Ocean Day is to catalyze collection action for a healthy ocean and stable climate. Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us is the theme for 2025 highlighting the awe-inspiring nature of the ocean and the crucial role it plays in supporting life on Earth, emphasizing the need for protection and conservation.
The celebrated broadcaster and filmmaker reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing. Stunning, immersive cinematography showcases the wonder of life under the seas and exposes the realities and challenges facing our ocean as never-before-seen, from destructive fishing techniques to mass coral reef bleaching. Yet the story is one of optimism, with Attenborough pointing to inspirational stories from around the world to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen.
OCEAN with David Attenborough is a Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios co-production, in association with All3Media International, National Geographic, and Minderoo Pictures.
