Day Sailing – Hands-On Educational Experience on San Diego Bay

Set sail on an unforgettable three-hour Educational Sail aboard one of our historic tall ships! This immersive, hands-on program allows participants to experience the thrill and challenge of traditional sailing while exploring the science, teamwork, and history of life at sea.

What to Expect:

  • Hands-On Learning: Students will actively participate in raising and trimming 7,000 square feet of sail, taking the helm, and handling the ship’s lines and rigging.
  • Navigation & Physics: Learn traditional navigation techniques, discover the forces of wind and water, and apply physics and engineering principles to maneuver a 100-ton vessel.
  • Maritime Teamwork: Compare the teamwork and challenges faced by present-day sailors to those of mariners in the 1800s, emphasizing problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Nature & Environmental Awareness: Observe San Diego Bay’s marine life, changing weather patterns, and coastal ecosystems, fostering a deeper understanding of ocean conservation.
  • STEM & History Integration: This program aligns with California State Standards for elementary, middle, and high school students, blending science, history, and practical skills in an engaging and interactive way.

  • Times: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (earlier/later start times can be arranged)
  • Age Recommendation: 8 years and older
  • Cost: $2,175 for up to 40 participants
