Position Overview
The Maritime Museum of San Diego is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and creative individual to join our team in private event sales and public events business development. One of the most captivating and vibrant sites in downtown San Diego, the Museum offers unrivaled opportunities for private and public events.
This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic professional to manage and grow revenue-generating private events at the Museum. In close collaboration with the Marketing, CFO, COO and Development Team, the Manager will lead private event sales staged dockside throughout the Museum fleet and/or charter business experienced aboard Museum tall ship and vintage power vessels on the Embarcadero waterfront of beautiful San Diego. (Business may include weddings, corporate events, and private charters). Sales responsibilities may also include large group tour reservations. In addition, the museum is interested in expanding public revenue generating programs and the Manager is tasked with the development and overseeing the implementation of these offerings.
Key Responsibilities
Private Event Sales & Management
- Serve as the first point of contact for all private event inquiries
- Relationship management with catering partners
- Manage client CRM database
- Attend industry events and outreach opportunities to reach meeting/event planners
- Conduct client tours, respond to leads, create proposals, and close bookings
- Plan and coordinate event logistics with internal staff, volunteers and vendors
- Represent the Museum professionally to ensure exceptional guest experiences
- Track sales metrics and provide regular reports on revenue goals
- Collaborate with marketing to promote private event offerings
- Manage event schedules, budgets, and staffing
- Evaluate program success/business units and suggest improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Marketing, Event Management, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in event sales, management, coordination (museum or cultural setting a plus)
- Strong sales skills and a track record of meeting revenue targets
- Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certified
- Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills
- Proficiency with CRM software and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Familiarity with maritime or local San Diego history a plus
- Spanish language skills a plus
