About IRA Charitable Rollover

IRA Charitable Rollover

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be interested in a tax-efficient way to support the Maritime Museum of San Diego while reducing the taxable income from your IRA withdrawals. An IRA charitable rollover allows you to make a gift directly from your IRA to the Museum, helping support our mission while benefiting you this year.

Benefits of an IRA charitable rollover

  • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $108,000 from your IRA to the Museum.
  • May satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
  • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions.
  • Make a charitable gift that is not subject to the usual deduction limits.

How an IRA charitable rollover gift works

  1. Contact your IRA plan administrator to request a charitable distribution from your IRA.
  2. Your IRA funds are transferred directly to the Maritime Museum of San Diego to support our work.
  3. Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable income tax deduction.

The Maritime Museum Association of San Diego is an exempt organization as described in sections 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, Federal ID# 95-2130325.
