The library and archive contain a treasure trove of information for the student of the maritime history of Southern California, and the Pacific Ocean. Naturally the museum’s primary focus is on archival materials and publications that serve to highlight the contribution our historic ships have made to maritime history and their paradigmatic qualities as representatives of the social and cultural history of the sea. Our collections are also strong in fields significantly influencing San Diego’s relationship with seafaring culture. Topics concerned with naval architecture, commercial fishery, and maritime defense are a well represented in the publications conserved in the library.
