Maritime Museum Of San Diego To Host New Education Challenge Summer 2019

Museum announces 1st Annual Oceanography Merit Badge Days

San Diego, CA (April 23, 2019) — Maritime Museum of San Diego, home to one of the world’s largest collections of historic vessels from sail to steam to submarine, will host the 1st Annual Oceanography Merit Badge Days Saturdays, July 27, August 3 and 10, 2019. The new event led by Boy Scouts of America certified instructors, invites scouts age 9-18 to enroll and earn their Oceanography Merit Badge through attendance at one of six classes held on three consecutive Saturday’s at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Participants can choose from classes at 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Scouts must complete one class to earn their Oceanography Merit Badge.

According to Jacob Keeton, Director of Education for the Maritime Museum, “The new Oceanography Merit Badge Days program meets a growing demand for smaller groups and presents an opportunity for scouts to join with other scouts in the San Diego community while earning their Oceanography Merit Badge. The content of the program focuses on an understanding of the ocean’s influence on the earth. Lessons include an in-depth, hands-on, interactive group study of weather, soil, air and the geography of our community.” Maritime Museum of San Diego has hosted for more than 20 years highly popular year-round educational events for hundreds of educators looking for exceptional, educational and experiential programming for youth programs and students.

Tickets are $40 per participant and include general admission tickets to explore the Museum after class. Space is limited and enrollment is based on a first come, first served basis. Participants are encouraged to book in advance online.
